Lubbock, TX to Little Rock, AR to Ruston, LA and Hudson Taylor
Today has been a long day of traveling. I left Lubbock at about 1:30pm to fly to Little Rock, AR where I met up with Bruce to drive to Louisiana. We will be here at a “conference” (for lack of better words) for college pastors until Wednesday. I’ll try to keep you up to date on the kind of trouble I get in while I’m here…Me, Bruce, and Kevin (my college pastor from Arkansas and Bruce’s former student) is a recipe for all kinds of trouble….and potential disaster!
Anywho, while I was in the midst of all of my travels today, I came across these words by Hudson Taylor (founder of the China Inland Mission in the 1800’s):
“I poured out my soul before God; and again and again confessing my grateful love to Him who had done everything for me – who had saved me when I had given up all hope and even desire for salvation – I besought Him to give me some work to do for Him, as an outlet for love gratitude; some self-denying service, no matter what it might be, however trying or however trivial; something with which He would be pleased, and that I might do for Him who had done so much for me…The presence of God became unutterably real and blessed; and though but a child under sixteen, I remember stretching myself on the ground, and lying there silent before Him with unspeakable awe and unspeakable joy.
For what service I was accepted I knew not; but a deep consciousness that I was no longer my own took possession of me.”
I hope you find these words both encouraging and challenging.
God bless.
