Down in the Bayou

Last year it was World Famous BBQ in the Blues capitol of the world, Memphis, TN. This year it is Southern Sweet Tea and Catfish down on the Bayou in Monroe, LA.

I’m glad God made food…and sweet tea.

Here are a few pictures from today’s events down here in Louisiana…

Let the discussion begin…6 hours! That’s called endurance.

Dinner break! Bring on the catfish and the beautiful view of the Bayou…

Left to Right: Kevin Inman (BSM director at LA Tech; was my campus minister in Arkansas), me (sporting the school colors of the future national champs), Steve Masters (BSM director at LSU)

I’m totally exhausted and am about to go to bed, but before I do, I want to quickly share two things that I took away from our meeting times today:

  1. It is so important that we view college ministry in the same way that we do international missions. Each university that we work at is like a different tribe. It has a unique culture that has to be engaged in a unique way….so I guess that means that I am currently working with the Red Raider tribe.
  2. The key to reaching freshman students is to begin solidifying your relationship with them before they even start college in the fall.

There are some pretty awesome (and crazy) men and women here who absolutely love Jesus Christ and have a passion for reaching and discipling college students.

That’s it for tonight (short but sweet). I will have more pictures tomorrow!

PS. I’m watching ESPN SportCenter right now (if you’ve been watching SportCenter lately, you’ll know what I’m talking about)…I vote for Lubbock, Texas as “Title Town USA” because Texas Tech University WILL be bringing home a national championship title in January.
