Isaiah 55: Quench Your Thirst

Isaiah 55 is such a rich text, which is why the next few posts will be designated to digging into it to see what all is there.

Isaiah 55:1 says:

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”

The word “come” is used 4 times in this one verse. It’s an important word! “Come” is a command in the form of an invitation. The Lord invites us to “come.”

It is a unique invitation. “Come” is a standing invitation. The Lord is not just inviting us to come once, He is inviting us to come and to continue to come. “Come” is a free invitation. There is no fee, cost, or cover charge…in fact, there is no cost involved at all in this invitation to come.

Who is this an invitation to?

The word “come” is an invitation to the “thirsty.”

How would YOU define thirsty in this passage? (I’ll give you a hint, I think God is using this picture of being thirsty to point to something much greater!)
